On Saturday, November 27, 2010, many members and supporters of Troop 1130 helped Jake Ahlgrimm with his Eagle project consisting of relocating a trail along the Potomac River. The project's trail portion is part of the Potomac Heritage Trail, an evolving 800 mile network of braided trails, anchored in a continuous route connecting the Chesapeake Bay though the nation's capital to the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. Jake's project involved relocating a portion of trail to higher terrain along the Virginia side of the Potomac River just south of Chain Bridge. This portion of the trail flooded frequently by rising river levels and made it unusable by hikers. Relocating the trail included blazing a new swath on higher terrain, clearing brush and trees and rocks from the swath and rerouting directional guides so that hikers would use the relocated trail and not the former trail. Jake was grateful for all the scouts and parents that showed up to help with the project. It couldn't have been completed without the effort and hard work of so many scouts and friends. |
